DJ Spinna And Spike Lee Wish MJ A Happy Birthday[VIDEO]

August 30, 2010

On Sunday August 29th 2010 DJ Spinna, Marley Marl, Spike Lee and all of Brooklyn came out to wish the late King of Pop a happy 52nd birthday. I grabbed some footage for the day job.

I had a “whose on first” moment when I asked Jamie Hector from The Wire what his favorite Michael Jackson record was and he answered, “Why.” Because you’re at a Michael Jackson party, man! He actually meant “Human Nature.” This is why we need music back in the schools. (I kid, I kid. )

David Banner & 9th Wonder On 106 & Park [Video]

August 27, 2010

This is probably the first time I’ve watched 106 since Free and AJ left. 9th Wonder and David Banner were on the teen scream show to promote their various endeavors including Death Of A Popstar dropping November 9th.

Isn’t it ironic that David Banner implored folks to buy albums but Terrance bragged about stealing the album out of his dressing room?

The Tweets Is Watching: 50 Needs Beats, Says Producers Were The Downfall Of B.I.S.D.

August 27, 2010

First the fat boys break up, now everday I wake up, another rapper on twitter with something to say. In case you missed the 50 Cent introduction to twitter today I’ll give you a quick wrap up. He ended almost every tweet with mother f*cker, told Miss Info he wanted to do her, and gave producers the heads up on where to send beats, just make sure you don’t send any wack shit, he might kill you. Here’s a thought though, if the production on your project isn’t tight wouldn’t that be the A&R’s fault? Just sayin.

Producer Symbolyc One Is “On The Come Up”

August 27, 2010

By now everyone knows who S1 is, if you don’t then I suggest you turn off your mpc and come out of your momma’s basement! The man who brought us Kanye’s “Power” sat down with ASCAP for their “On The Come Up” series to talk about his introduction into the music industry as well as his work with, of course, Kanyeezy. Here’s a small excerpt of their interview.

How did you get the opportunity to work with Kanye? And how was your experience working with him?

S1: I was introduced to Kanye through Rhymefest (for whom I produced four tracks, including the first two singles on his album, El Che). Kanye really liked the “Power” beat that Fest played for him, and a couple days after he heard it, I was on a plane to Hawaii. Kanye has super energy in the studio. He’s a genius! He took the foundation that I laid, added to it, and beefed the song up to its maximum potential. The end result was his creative vision.

What was your inspiration for “Power?”

S1: Just trying to make world music! When I first heard the vocal chants, I knew the beat and everything around it had to be BIG. So, I put the drums on it and a siren to give it more energy. Kanye and his team did the rest. He knew the potential of the track was big, so he really took his time on it to get it right.

9th Wonder: “Nottz Is The Best Beatmaker On The Earth Right Now”

August 25, 2010

9th Wonder spoke to Hard Knock TV about Drake wanting his co-sign on Twitter and which producer in the game is his favorite right now.
“I think he’s really had the time to hone his sound. Nottz plays beats that scare you. That’s the person that pushes me to the limit.”

He also talks about having a picture of Dilla holding a copy of The Listening but admits that he never got to meet him.
