DJ Clark Kent has Bow Wow going nuts in the new Lottery Ticket movie. Well, his sneakers do. But here the legendary DJ and producer spoke with Boundless NY about his early exposure to music and how it influenced his producing.
“The one thing that was cool in my house is that you were allowed to use the stereo. I used to sit around playing the 45s, sticking the 8-track in. That was the back bone of what I grew up loving. It’s funny cuz when I say I played the New Birth 8-track, one of the biggest records I produced, the song was on that 8-track. When I was learning to produce that was a song I always played because it was from my childhood. At some point I learned how to sample it properly and it became “Players Anthem.” But when I was seven and eight [years old] it was just a great record.”
