April 2, 2010

SANTA MONICA, Calif., (April 1, 2010 ) – The Red Bull Big Tune program has been a longstanding, respected platform for up-and-coming music producers to gain national exposure, collaborate with well-known artists and make solid connections that could catapult one’s career. This spring, Red Bull Big Tune hits the road again hosting qualifying battles in Austin, TX; Philadelphia, PA; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO; Seattle, WA; Minneapolis, MN; St. Louis, MO; Ann Arbor/Detroit, MI; and Virginia Beach, VA.

Each battle will feature 12 producers vying for audience votes. The top two producers from each qualifying competition will advance to the national finals at

Past winners have collaborated with Young Buck and Nas. Interested producers can apply online beginning April 1, 2010 at www.redbullbigtune.com.

NEXT ON DECK

After nabbing “runner-up” in the 2008 Red Bull Big Tune national finals, beat-master Frank Dukes of Toronto came back with a vengeance and seized the 2009 national championship title last December, earning himself a private recording session at Red Bull Studios. Dukes’ emcee of choice and the musical collaboration will be unveiled later this summer.

“Red Bull Big Tune has helped connect me with a lot of people in the music industry that I’ve been able to network with and build relationships,”
explains Dukes who recently secured a song deal with G-Unit. “All in all, it’s put me in a better position to get where I’m trying to go.”

MORE THAN A BEAT
Red Bull Big Tune is more than a beat battle. It is a full-fledged producer program with a parallel education outreach and mentorship series designed to inspire and educate the next generation of music producers. In several cities each year, Red Bull Big Tune team members and critically acclaimed producers Jake One and Vitamin D, along with event creator Jonathan Moore, conduct music workshops for youth where they share their experience in the music industry from beat- making to deal-making.

As part of the
Red Bull Big Tune program, participating producers are given a platform to share their music with millions of fans. For the past two years, the Red Bull Big Tune finals have aired on national television networks accompanied by the road to the finals documentary web series. Beyond the national exposure, participants benefit from the support of artists such as Nas, Young Buck, Ghostface, Ninth Wonder, DJ Quick, Hi-Tek, J-Rocc, Freeway, Just Blaze, DJ Premiere, Black Milk, Sean Price, Evidence,Chali2na, De La Soul, Jake One, Vitamin D and Alchemist through performance, collaboration or mentorship opportunities.

Jake One & J-Dilla Helping DOOM Give Birth In March

February 19, 2009

mfdoom
Mask-wearing hip-hop maverick DOOM (previously MF Doom) unveils his imminent new album, BORN LIKE THIS – a tour de force of thrillingly intricate and diabolically original songwriting. BLT is his first full-length solo offering in over four years.

As well as head-spinningly complex, reference-rich rhymes, DOOM also provides the majority of the peerless production himself with just 2 tracks here featuring the studio skills of others. Credit for crafting the bounciest of beats on short yet sweet BALLSKIN goes to Washington’s Jake One, whilst the much-missed J Dilla’s magical psychedelic jamboree illuminates LIGHTWORKS. Guest vocalists include founding Wu Tang Clan members Ghostface and Raekwon, with the former appropriately appearing in his cartoon-inspired Tony Starks guise.

BORN LIKE THIS takes its title from Charles Bukowski’s dystopian poem, ‘Dinosauria, We’, read by its author and re-scored by DOOM on CELLZ. Sharp-eared followers of the interesting end of hip-hop may recognize some of the album’s lineage – the instrumental of LIGHTWORKS is a highlight of J Dilla’s Donuts and an early demo of ANGELZ has circulated in cyberspace – however, the rest of the newborn record’s 16 tracks are 100% fresh and, until now, unheard.

DOOM’s previous solo adventures and escapades include output as alternative alter egos ‘King Geedorah’- a three-headed monster from outer-space – and ‘Viktor Vaughan’ – a DOOM spin-off who exists in a technologically advanced parallel dimension – as well as collaborative albums with Madlib (as ‘Madvillian’), Danger Mouse (‘DangerDOOM’), and a cameo on Gorillaz Demon Days opus.

BORN LIKE THIS will be released worldwide by Lex Records
