The music listening public first got a taste of the collaborative chemistry between De La Soul and the lateJames “J-Dilla” Yancey in 1996 for their title track “Stakes Is High.” Dilla’s flip of Ahmad Jamal’s Swahililand set the bar high for subsequent “Dilla Soul” songs like “Thru Ya City,” “Much More” and “Verbal Clap.”

To commemorate the 25th Anniversary of their debut, “3 Ft. High and Rising” De La Soul are releasing a mix tape called “Smell The DA.I.S.Y” (Da Inner Sound Of Yancey) featuring all beats by J-Dilla. The mixtape download also comes with the Dilla documentary Still Shining. Grab it via BitTorrent.
