I know that this isn’t a Jay-Z vs Kanye thing but Hov said “eff your projectors” and took the marketing of his just announced album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail” to the oft mentioned but rarely reached “next level.”
The album will be available digitally to 1 Million Samsung Galaxy phone owners via an app they purchase on June 26th, three days before the rest of the world gets it. Samsung coughed up $5 for each copy. How do you spell winning? J-A-Y-Z.
But beyond this being brilliant marketing, the music he played in the commercial below actually sounds GOOD. Watching him in the studio with frequent collaborators Pharrell, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Rick Rubin was worth the click alone. That “marketing via producer” pioneered by Nas on Illmatic seems totally natural in this scenario and was icing on the proverbial cake.
