Danja Clears Up Timbaland Ghost-Producing Rumors

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing super producer Nate “Danja” Hills for the day job and I got some jewels for my Nodfactor fam. While I’m getting some of the video together I wanted to share Nate’s recollection of how he met Timbaland and clearing up the idea that he was somehow Mr. Mosley’s ghost producer:

 How did you meet Timbaland?

I met Tim through a friend of his named Larry Live. There was this one kid SOB who introduced me to Larry, and Larry was Tim’s best friend. I was about 20 years old the first time I met him. At the same time I was kinda working with Teddy Riley, a little studio rat in the corner nobody paid attention to. I did play Teddy some music and he was aware of my talent but we just never worked. So at the same time it was the Teddy and Tim thing. I had 30 tracks on a CD and played Tim my tracks. We talked for about two hours straight. He was just telling me how talented I was and that all I needed was sounds. I didn’t need any development or anything.

Things didn’t work out at that particular moment but we ended up crossing paths again when I was 22 or 23 years old. I played him like 12 more tracks.  He listened to maybe two seconds of each track and said they were all crazy.  Six months later I start working with him on the tour bus on a project for a new artist he signed named John Doe. We just instantly formed a bond musically and that’s where it all began. Around 2003. In 2004 I moved out to Miami and was there ever since.

Early on people mislabeled you as his ghost producer but your name was on the records. Were you ever a ghost producer for Tim?

I can say from “I’m so Fly On” my name was on the records. I didn’t do anything I didn’t get credit for. I got my publishing and everything. Tim is active in the studio. He makes the beats, he doesn’t need me to make a beat for him. Never that. I think people do sometimes mistake when I got with him and get credit for things I had NOTHING to do with it.  I’ve heard people mistake me being around for “Dirt Off Your Shoulders” but I wasn’t anywhere around Tim back then.  Our era begins in 2004.
