Breakfast Breaks #6: Grant Green, “Down Here On The Ground”

For the last of this week’s “Breakfast Breaks” I was so tempted to recycle one of these, because I was up late watching Olivia Pope and The Knicks. But I clicked around my iTunes collection and found this goody.

“Down Here On The Ground” was recorded by late jazz guitarist Grant Green. It can be found on his 1970 album for Blue Note, Alive!  I was introduced to awesomeness of this record by A Tribe Called Quest’s “Vibes & Stuff” and Cypress Hill’s “Stoned Is The Way Of The Walk.” Oddisee brought back parts of it recently for Diamond District’s “I Mean Business.”

I actually have multiple versions in my collection. The one I prefer has vocals by Diane Reeves. I’ve put both here for your listening pleasure.

Share and Enjoy
