The Chocolate Boy Wonder is ready to add on to hip-hop’s “Summer Madness.” With the new albums with Smiff-N-Wessun and Camp Lo on the way Pete is about to go on tour with music legend Roy Ayers. Pete headlined a tribute to Ayers in 2010 and during an interview for TheUrbandaily.com’s Black Music Month coverage he revealed that he was in the studio with Ayers preparing for the tour.
“We’re doing a couple of dates in Europe and I was asking him about more RAMP , because the original RAMP album was Come Into Knowledge — the “Bonita Applebum” sample, everything was on there — that album got shelved; it never came out. And they bootlegged it in the 70s and they made a second album with Roy [Ayers]. He said he thinks he only has three songs. I can’t wait to hear them.”
Pete famously sampled Roy Ayers “Searchin” for a song of the same name on he and CL Smooth’s The Main Ingredient and plans to do something with it live.
“I’m doing the West Coast one in June and then we go to the UK with Roy next month. I’m going to be DJing and extending some of his music, and I’ll be up there with my drum machine. I had an idea where I was going to create a beat, do “Searching” over onstage and redo the beat and have the band come in and start doing the song. Our first show will be here in New York at the Highline Ballroom, then the Blue Note Festival.”
