Bloggin 4 Beats: The World is Yours Remix

“even my brain’s in handcuffs”..

So there I was playing word association again. Got this Nas acapella of “The World is Yours” and filter my itunes list for songs with the word “world” in it to do a remix. Nothing I had seemed to appeal so I went Amazon.com and bought a copy of The Stylistics “People Make The World Go ‘Round.” I listened to it three or four times picking out the pieces I wanted to sample. Then I dug around for drums that would compliment the sample and came across those Bill Whithers joints I like so much. I had started an earlier version with Donny Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy” and kept a piece of that for a change of pace. (Yes, the word association played a part their too…Nas was speaking for and to Lil Ghetto boys everywhere) I still laugh when I see that big ass cellphone and the bandana he’s rockin in the video. One.
